Lightroom mobile says SD card is empty

I've connected my Fujifilm camera to my iPad via a USBC cable. In Lightroom my camera is recognized. However it says that there are no images on the SD card. Of course there are, I was just looking at them on my camera. How to resolve this?
 
I found the way to resolve this is to save the in-camera picture folder to an SD card reader, plugged into my iPad. Once the image files are on the card reader, Lightroom Mobile has no problem recognizing and opening the files. It just won't do it using a direct connection between the camera and iPad.
